ADOBE PAGE MAKER (theory)

DEFINITION: Page maker is desktop publishing application software used for both word processing and graphics designing. It is basically used to create a document with a complex layout of text.

          Page maker is also desktop publishing program that is used to create graphics such as palm flex, newsletters, fliers, bulletin etc.

Examples of other desktop publishing packages includes: Corel draw, Page maker, Adobe Photoshop, Instant artist, Print artist etc.

                                  FEATURES OF PAGEMAKER

       Tittle bar, menu bar, rular bar, the scroll bar, the drawing window or editing screen, the tool box, the control palette and the colour palette etc.

        TOOL BOX: It contains all the tools you will use for creating and

manipulating (writing) texts and objects.  It also contains two tools to help you view your publication.                 

      CONTROL PALETTE: It controls the text and graphics elements of PageMaker.

        COLOUR PALETTES: It carries colours and styles of the program window.

       DOCUMENT PAGES: It is where all documents are created.

                           TOOLS OF ADOBE PAGE MAKER

1.    VERSION WINDOW: It displays when you click the version of the PageMaker that is being used.

2.    POINTER; It selects items, lines, shapes, graphics and textbox. Selected item can be moved, resized and rotate.

3.    TEXT TOOL; It selects text or set insertion points for adding text.

4.    ROTATE TOOL; It is used to rotate text blocks and graphics to almost any angle.

5.    CROPPING TOOL; It is used to crop graphics elements.

6.    LINE TOOL; It is creates straight lines at almost any angle.

7.    CONSTRAINT LINE; It creates vertical, horizontal and 45^o angle lines.

8.    RECTANGIE; It creates square and a rectangle shape.

9.    RECTANGLE TEXTBOX; It creates rectangular shaped box.

10.                    OVAL SHAPE; It creates circular and oval shapes. It is also called or knows as eclipse tool.

11.                    ECLIPSE TEXT BOX; It creates circular and oval shaped text box.

12.                    POLYGON TEXT BOX; It creates polygon shaped text box.

13.                    HAND TOOL; It allows a user to drag a page for optional view.

14.                    ZOOM TOOL; It is used to zoom in and out of a page

                      USES OF ADOBE PAGE MAKER

1.    It is used to prepare newspaper and magazine

2.    It is used to prepare a letter headed paper.

3.    It is used to design cards and bulletins.

   HOW TO LOAD \OPEN ADOBE PAGE MAKER

1.    Click on start button.

2.    Point to program.

3.    Locate and point to adobe.

4.    From the submenu.

5.    Point to page maker 6.5, 7.0.

6.    Click on adobe page maker 6.5 or 7.0

7.    Click file menu.

8.    Click new.

9.    Document setup dialog box display, select the page size, tall or wide, double sided face pages, set the margin and enter the starting page number.

10.                    Click Ok.
