This means Vital Information Resource Under Siege.

These are written programs designed by software programmers to prevent people from pirating or duplicating their software. When such programs are being duplicated, this computer virus will then be transmitted to the computer. It is very harmful and dangerous to the computer system because it makes the computer not to function effectively or even break down in some cases.

This computer virus cannot be seen with our naked eyes, and are usually transmitted from one computer to another through a contaminated diskette or internal connection. There is no specific sign to show the presence of virus in a computer system unless when the computer fails to function effectively or through the use of Anti-virus software, if available. It can also be transferred by downloading an infected file from the internet.
There are numerous names of computer virus, some of these viruses are circulatory present and some are yet to come to existence.

CHARACTERISTICS OF COMPUTER VIRUS
1.     They replicate at a very high speed
2.     They can change their form
3.     They can stop other programs
4.     They possess a digital DNA that usually identifies it

TYPES OF COMPUTER VIRUS
This includes:
1.                 BOOT SECTOR VIRUS
2.                 FILE SECTOR VIRUS

BOOT SEECTOR VIRUS: This is the type of virus that copies itself to boot sector of the system thereby hindering the system to boot up to window.

FILE SECTOR VIRUS: This is the type of virus that affects the executable file like EXE, BAT, COM etc. thereby hindering the system from carrying out proper functioning.
