STORAGE DEVICES
These are devices used to store data, information and programs.
They are non- volatile and higher storage capacity. They are also referred to as backup storage. Examples of storage devices are:
·  Flash drive
·  Floppy disk
·  Hard disk
·  Memory card
·  Compact disk(CD)
·  Digital video (DVD) etc.

 
1.     FLASH DRIVE: This is a small and potable memory. It is a new technology of storage device with a high storage capacity ranging from 64 MB to over 8 GB. The device is connected to the computer through the USB port.
2.     FLOPPY DISK: This is a removable storage media made with similarities to the technology of a radio cassette. It is thicker in nature and stores little amount of data.
3.     HARD DISK: This is magnetic disk that has the capability to store more data and is faster than floppy disk in terms of access time. Hard disk can store many hundreds of megabytes or gigabytes. There are two types of hard disk. The internal hard disk and external hard disks. The internal hard disks are installed inside the computer while the external hard disks are connected to the computer.
4.     MEMORY CARD: Memory card or media card is a storage device that is very small in outlook. It is used for storage data/ documents. In most cases, it is used in mobile phones for storing music, videos, images etc.
5.     COMPACT DISK (CD): This is a small portable kind of disk used for backing up data. They are used for recording, storing and playing audio, video and any other information in digital form.
6.     DIGITAL VIDEO DISK (DVD): It is the optical disk storage device of the same size as the CD but of higher capacity. DVDs can be single or double sided. DVD comes in different formats such as: DVD+RW (Rewritable), DVD+R (Recordable), DVD- RAM (Random Access Memory) etc.
