IMPACT PRINTER: The impact printer uses ribbon with ink to print something like the typewriter. Inside the printer, there is print head containing small pins striker and inked ribbons. The striking action makes a dot-matrix printer quite loud. The quality of the printing depends on the number of pins in the print head. Example of impact printer is the DOT-MATRIX printer.

THE NON-IMPACT PRINTER: The non-impact printer uses ink or toners. They are unlike the impact printers that uses ribbons. They work like the photocopying machines and very fast. Examples are: the INK/DESK JETS, BUBBLE JETS AND LASER JETS. Etc

CLASSIFICATIONS OF PRINTERS
Printer can also be classified into Low speed and High speed printers.
