OUTPUT DEVICES
They are those
devices used to bring out information from the computer system.
It is where
computer readable language is converted into human readable language. It is
where already processed information is brought out from the computer system.
Examples of output devices are: Monitor,
Printer, Plotter, Speaker e t c.
MONITOR
It is one of
the output devices which displays all the jobs performed in the computer
system. It is also called visual display unit www.facebook.com(V.D.U). It serves as our paper on which we write on and display
information stored in the computer’s memory.
The information that displays on the monitor
screen is called SOFT COPY
TYPES
OF MONITOR
There are two
types of monitor: they are:
1. MONOCHROME MONITOR
2. COLOUR MONITOR
MONOCHROME MONITOR: It is the type of monitor that displays only one colour
Note that it
is always constant in nature. E.G, Black and white, Green and white, Amber and
white etc
COLOUR MONITOR:
It is the type of monitor that displays multiple colours.
TYPES OF COLOUR MONITOR
1. Enhanced
Graphic Adapter (E.G.A)
2. Video Graphic Adapter (V.G.A)
3. Super Video
Graphical Adapter (S.V.G.A)

We have:

Note that we
also have the Liquid Crystal Display (LCD)
Monitor and the Cathode Ray Tube (CRT)

PRINTER
The printer is
one of the most important output devices. It is used to produce or print copies
of documents on papers. It also produces images on permanent basis. The
printout of texts, graphics on paper or any object is called HARD COPY. The speed of the printer
determines how quickly the printer can print the documents. The speed is
measured in characters per second or pages per minute.
TYPES OF PRINTER
There are two
types of printer:
1.
THE IMPACT
PRINTER
2.
THE NON-IMPACT
PRINTER
IMPACT PRINTER:
The impact printer uses ribbon with ink to print something like the typewriter.
Inside the printer, there is print head containing small pins striker and inked
ribbons. The striking action makes a dot-matrix printer quite loud. The quality
of the printing depends on the number of pins in the print head. Example of
impact printer is the DOT-MATRIX
printer.
THE NON-IMPACT PRINTER: The non-impact printer uses ink or toners. They are
unlike the impact printers that uses ribbons. They work like the photocopying
machines and very fast. Examples are: the INK/DESK
JETS, BUBBLE JETS AND LASER JETS. Etc
CLASSIFICATIONS OF PRINTERS
Printer can
also be classified into Low speed and High speed printers.
1.
LOW SPEED PRINTERS: This is the type of printer that prints out slowly when given a
command to print.
2.
HIGH SPEED PRINTER: This is the type of printer that prints out immediately when given a
command to print
