APPLICATION SOFTWARE

  These are software written to perform specific functions. The application software is written to solve particular problem. Application software can also be referred to as an application package. They may be written by commercial software manufacturers or could be produced by in-house programmers.

Software packages are pre-written, pre-coded and commercially available set of programs for general use.

TYPES OF APPLICATION PACKAGES

We have different types of application packages, they are:

1.             WORD PROCESSING PACKAGE:  These are software used for word processing (typing). They can be called word processors.

Examples of word processors (word processing packages) are:

·  Microsoft word

·  Word star

·  Word perfect

·  Word pro

·  Core word perfect

·  Lotus

·  perfect writer

·  MultiMate Advantage

·  professional write

·  Word pad

·  Note Pad etc.

2.             SPREAD SHEET PACKAGE: These are software used to provide information in tabular form. They are used for accounting, for making payroll, charts and statistics etc.

Examples of spread sheet packages are:

·  Microsoft excel

·  Lotus 1,2,3

·  Super cal

·  Quattro

·  Peach tree accounting etc.

    3. DATABASE MANAGEMENT PACKAGE: These are software that controls the storage, retrieval and manipulation of data stored in a database. Using a Database management package, it makes file easy to store, edit and retrieve effectively.

Examples of Database management packages are:

·  Microsoft Access

·  Dbase iv

·  Oracle

·  MYSQL

·  fox base plus

·  Sybase

·  paradox

·  Borland Dbase

      4. DESKTOP PUBLISHING PACKAGE: They are packages used to create designing in the computer .They are also used to create cards &calendars etc.

Examples of desktop publishing packages are:

·  Adobe PageMaker

·  Microsoft publishers

·  Corel draw etc.

5. GRAPHIC PACKAGE: They are package used in designing professional art works. They are   also used for representation and manipulation of image data by a computer.

Examples of graphic packages are:

·  Corel Draw

·  Paint

·  Adobe Photoshop

·  Harvard graphics

·  Print Artist

·  Instant Artist

·  Corel Rave

·  Freelance.

 6. PRESENTATION PACKAGE: Presentation package is a computer software package that is used to display information usually inform of slide show.

Example of presentation packages are:

·  Microsoft PowerPoint

·  Macromedia flash

·  Window movie maker etc.

 7. TUTORIAL PACKAGE:  They are used for tutorials

Examples of tutorial packages are:

·  Mavis Beacon

·  Computer Aided learning (CAL)

·   Computer Aided Instruction (CAI) etc
